These are my confessions

My running confessions/realizations
  • I do not like running.
  • I do like how I feel AFTER I am done running.

  • Before every "run" day I am filled with dread.
  • After every run I think to myself- I should do a full marathon.
  • In this month's Runners magazine there is a quote that says "real men don't run 5ks they run half marathons!"  and I think- really!?- I'm pretty sure they meant to say marathon and somehow the word "half" got in there.
  • Sometimes on my run I plan my wedding... and I don't even have a ring. And let me tell you, it will be a fabulous occasion.
  • Once during a 4 mile run I tried visualizing the half marathon but really just planned what I was going to wear and how I will wear my hair (hey- whatever makes the miles go by right?)
  • I think part of the reason I keep running- is that I like the discipline it requires.
  • I realized running is like a diet- you are only hurting yourself if you cheat (especially if you are training for a race).
  • Speaking of diet- I am STARVING every single day.
  • I'm also very scared to eat anything with fiber on my long run days- if you know what I mean.
  • Even though I can probably run 4 miles without stopping- I always do.
  • Even though I am running about 15 miles a week it never seems easier.
  • Sometimes 2 miles seems every bit as hard as 4 or 6 miles.
I'm going to try not to make every blog post about running- but when I started this blog I did it because I wanted to write about the highs and lows of trying to be fit. As I've mentioned before, I've always wanted to be a runner. It always seems like when I read about someone's running success story it always starts the same:

I started walking then one day tried to run. I added a half mile every day and the next thing you know I decided to run clear across the United States!

It made me crazy because I didn't think it could be that easy - and it's not- not THAT easy anyway. As I mentioned above, running is hard work (for me anyway) but I am amazed at how far I have come in such a short time. I can remember when I didn't even know how to breathe correctly while running. I remember when just running a mile on the treadmill was exhausting- and I always felt that I was in reasonably good shape. Running is definitely a whole other animal. But I'm pushing through. I know that when I complete those 13 miles it will be worth all the hard work. I just hope all of you can live through my bellyaching.

Today's Eats:
  • bfast- Ezekiel English muffin, Horizon cheese slice, egg, coffee
  • snack- banana, OG greek yogurt, kashi cereal (my new favorite snack)
  • lunch- Panera bread veg. black bean soup with 1/2 ceasar salad (oh-so-good)
  • snack- mini bagel
  • snack #3- 1/2 Odwalla bar
  • Dinner- salad- 1 cuke, strawberries, romaine lettuce, olive oil, vinegar and feta cheese
  • Workout- 3.75 miles
  • Veggies/fruit- 5

Runnin' Down a Dream

Have you ever been so stressed that your work follows you in your dreams?

I can remember in high school dreaming about doing math problems and nothing would add up (because it is a dream) and I would spend my 8 hours of “rest” stressed.  Well – it’s happening again. I’m not so much as stressed as I am just extremely busy at work.

But no one wants to hear that right?

Do you wanna hear how I kicked some major ass at Body Pump last night? I didn’t even have one second of dread about going. I was on a mission. I loaded up my bar and WoRkEd it. Sadly, I look over and see this using the same about of weights that I am

but I don’t care about you Granny Magee I’m getting my fitness on Fergie style.

Oh and speaking of style….

As part of my New Year’s Resolution- I bought a cute pair of workout pants:

For those that know me- this is a huge step. I usually do not wear tight-lower-body-huggin-stuff. I felt naked. But it did allow me to move better in class.

Baby steps people!

AND- I also ran a mile AFTER body pump (and a mile after spin on Monday). It feels great.
Here is last night’s cooking triumph.

My healthy quesdilla- WW tortilla, shrimp, little bit of goat cheese, spinach, tomatoes and avocado. LOADED!

Today’s Eats:

  • Bfast- 1 orange, WW English muffin with egg, cheese, coffee
  • Snack #1- Coffee (it was one of those days) handful almonds
  • Lunch- WW Arnold thin wannabe, turkey, hummus, spouts, Green Monster
  • Snack #2- apple
  • Dinner- WW pasta, ricotta cheese (little for me -a lot for Abbie) with matchstick apples and spinach
  • Fruit/Veggie Count: 5

(Body)Pump up the Jams

Seriously, how much do you love hand-me-downs?  Check out this pile I received from a friend:

Jackpot!

Yesterday I finally dragged my booty into Body Pump.  That class is so ridiculously hard- seriously. I dread it every time - but always leave feeling strong. I know I've said this before- but I am just going to suck it up and go. I'm thinking of trying 2 classes a week for 3 months and seeing what kind of results I get. (before and after pictures?maybe.)

For those who do not have Body Pump at their gyms - Here’s a clip of the torture:

Since I failed to blog last night- I’m going to take this time to highlight a cooking triumph for me.  Quinoa stuffed peppers. LOADEDWITHDELICOUS!

I haven’t had Quinoa before. To me the dish tasted like spaghetti (because of all the tomatoes). Unfortunately my photography skills aren’t so keen- so this picture doesn’t quite capture the yummy-ness of it all.

Today’s Eats:

  • Bfast- multigrain pancakes with applesauce and coffee
  • Snack #1- PB Puffins and green tea
  • Lunch- Stuffed pepper leftover (just as good the 2nd time around) and apple chips
  • Snack #2- banana
  • Dinner- “Healthy Moes” WW tortilla, brown rice, black beans, (little bit) refried beans, (little bit) cheese, cukes, tomatoes, lime juice, and avocado .
  • Fruit/Veggie Count: 5
  • Workout- 1 hour of Body Pump

Lazy lazy lazy Jane

Everyday about this time - 3:50pm - I have this thought:

Who cares if I don't go to the gym? I can be perfectly happy laying in bed eating cookies and watching TV for the rest of my life...

I call it the "before the gym dread" I think it is mostly due to the fact that my day is winding down from work and I really just want some chill time to relax.

No worries though- I know better.

More blog to come!

*****************************************************************************
So I dragged my butt to the gym. Great, great, great class- so glad that I went to spin. I LOVE spin. I love that the room is dark and I can just fall into the music.

I think they should have the whole gym like that.... hmmmm... maybe I'll start one.... and call it Club Gym. All the lights will be low and loud fast paced music would be bumpin'.  Of course we'll leave a lit section by the free weights for all the meat heads to look at themselves while flexing. (seriously how hilarous is that to see at a gym? Boys have no shame- you NEVER see girls flexing their muscles in the gym in front of everyone)

today's eats:

  • bfast- 2 egg whites cooked with oats, topped with 1/2 banana and almond butter
  • Snack #1- organic popcorn with sea salt
  • Lunch- Flatout spinach wrap with cuke, avocado, sprouts and hummus
  • Snack #2- apple
  • Dinner- homemade pizza- wheat crust, tomato sauce, cheese, mushrooms and peppers (loaded!)
  • Dessert- cupcake
  • Fruit/Veggie Count- 5
  • Workout: 45 min spin class

Talk to the Moose- Moose! ah ah ah ah Moose!

How much do you love this commercial?

It makes me want to have a gaggle of girls. That I can dress up in these cute little winter clothes.

I'm driving Abbie crazy though by singing "Moose! ah ah ah Moose!" as well as deeming Bunkie's new name as "Moose" for the rest of the year.

So the fitness schedule has been made:
