Training days... or lack thereof

In my last post I grandly announced that I was running in the Savannah marathon...
I also have a 1/2 marathon in September.

Unfortunately- my enthusiasm for these races have not translated into actually training for them.
I have yet to run.
I don't know why
but I have no motivation whatsoever

The main problem is
if I want to run outside
(which I do- so much better than the treadmill)
Then I have to get my lazy ass out of bed early enough to still get to work on time

and that has yet to happen.

I've laid out my running clothes
gone to bed early
and even wrote mantras

none of it has helped.

Tomorrow is a new day I guess.

I would love any tips you may have...

Who's the Loser now?

So last night's Biggest Loser was LAME
and is a prime example of why I hate contest/reality shows
and is possibly the reason I will not be watching next season

Filler, filler, filler
This show could EASILY be cut to 1 hour
they interview the contestants and who just keep repeating themselves.

So lame.
From now on, I'm only watching DVR'd shows so I can fast forward through all the crap.

I know-
this blog post is equally as lame.
I promise to do better.

forgive me?

A new york smile in skinny jeans

In continuation of my poopie mood, I have written a poem...

Skinny jeans, skinny jeans
You are a trend that should die
For hips and asses – you do not hide

Skinny jeans, skinny jeans
That only tall toothpicks can wear
Aren’t you concerned that I look like a pear?

Skinny jeans, skinny jeans
You now crowd the shelves
Leaving us curvy girls to fend for ourselves

Skinny jeans, skinny jeans
I hope you are only a fad
Like chunky heels, hammer pants, and dreaded shoulder pads.

This is dedicated to LISA.

****
Did everyone watch
How I Met Your Mother
last night?
source

(note- I originally typed that as: How I Met Your Mother Last Night? bow chica wow wow)
Now this is a sitcom that gets it right.
So freaking creative every single time.

If you haven't seen it- watch it

also
don't forget to watch TBL tonight

Abbie and I have a bet with another couple on who the winner will be
loser has to buy dinner
my vote is for Rick.
not necessarily because I think he has the most potential
but because of this:

we now jump at the opportunity to yell  - Rick!

How to Annoy Me...

  • Use the word "EPIC" in your facebook status
  • Use the words "EPIC AWESOMENESS" together in your facebook status
  • Be out of staples (this one is directed to my stapler)
  • Tweet about “how to be happy”
  • Use definitive words
  • End all of your emails with ASAP
  • Pass me on the right
  • Say my dog is fat
  • Park in my spot
  • Act chipper at 8:30am on a Monday
Just keeping with the "I'm Poopie theme"

stuff it

I'm having one of those days where I hate everyone and everything
I don't know why
I call it being poopie.

When I told Brittany I was poopie this weekend she thought I was having stomach issues
not the case

Basically I don't want to be anywhere or do anything
then feel guilty that I am feeling this way

Anyones else have this happen?

On the plus side
I made another loaded dinner last night

Stuffed Acorn Squash

Followed by this

ice cream on top

(I used brown rice and craisins instead)

The best part about it was that I got to use my new knife

New knife

Rusted old knife (don't worry I never used this- just never threw it out)

These are my confessions

My running confessions/realizations
  • I do not like running.
  • I do like how I feel AFTER I am done running.

  • Before every "run" day I am filled with dread.
  • After every run I think to myself- I should do a full marathon.
  • In this month's Runners magazine there is a quote that says "real men don't run 5ks they run half marathons!"  and I think- really!?- I'm pretty sure they meant to say marathon and somehow the word "half" got in there.
  • Sometimes on my run I plan my wedding... and I don't even have a ring. And let me tell you, it will be a fabulous occasion.
  • Once during a 4 mile run I tried visualizing the half marathon but really just planned what I was going to wear and how I will wear my hair (hey- whatever makes the miles go by right?)
  • I think part of the reason I keep running- is that I like the discipline it requires.
  • I realized running is like a diet- you are only hurting yourself if you cheat (especially if you are training for a race).
  • Speaking of diet- I am STARVING every single day.
  • I'm also very scared to eat anything with fiber on my long run days- if you know what I mean.
  • Even though I can probably run 4 miles without stopping- I always do.
  • Even though I am running about 15 miles a week it never seems easier.
  • Sometimes 2 miles seems every bit as hard as 4 or 6 miles.
I'm going to try not to make every blog post about running- but when I started this blog I did it because I wanted to write about the highs and lows of trying to be fit. As I've mentioned before, I've always wanted to be a runner. It always seems like when I read about someone's running success story it always starts the same:

I started walking then one day tried to run. I added a half mile every day and the next thing you know I decided to run clear across the United States!

It made me crazy because I didn't think it could be that easy - and it's not- not THAT easy anyway. As I mentioned above, running is hard work (for me anyway) but I am amazed at how far I have come in such a short time. I can remember when I didn't even know how to breathe correctly while running. I remember when just running a mile on the treadmill was exhausting- and I always felt that I was in reasonably good shape. Running is definitely a whole other animal. But I'm pushing through. I know that when I complete those 13 miles it will be worth all the hard work. I just hope all of you can live through my bellyaching.

Today's Eats:
  • bfast- Ezekiel English muffin, Horizon cheese slice, egg, coffee
  • snack- banana, OG greek yogurt, kashi cereal (my new favorite snack)
  • lunch- Panera bread veg. black bean soup with 1/2 ceasar salad (oh-so-good)
  • snack- mini bagel
  • snack #3- 1/2 Odwalla bar
  • Dinner- salad- 1 cuke, strawberries, romaine lettuce, olive oil, vinegar and feta cheese
  • Workout- 3.75 miles
  • Veggies/fruit- 5

I'll tell you who I will NOT be calling

Today I am driving down I75
a very busy highway
I see a Critter Control truck
(Critter Control traps animals that are a nuisance- like moles, snakes, woodchucks etc.)
it is a pick up truck with cages on top of cages in the bed.
On one of the highest cages there is a cat THAT IS HIGHLY DISTRESSED
now,

1. What the F is Critter Control doing with a cat?
2. Why did they place this cat in a high cage driving 75 mph down a highway?

To say I was pissed doesn't even describe it.
I had already made up my mind on giving Critter Control a piece of my mind when I got to the office.

But as I drove on,
I looked in my rear view mirror to see this cat JUMP from out of the cage
roll onto a very busy highway
and thankfully- run to safety on the side of the road
(there is no doubt that he was injured thought)
It was amazing and infuriating all at the same time.

When I got to work I called the company but there was no answer and no voice mail
I emailed them and still have not heard back
So
I did what any good blogger would do
I'm writing about it
I also left a nasty gram on their website.

It appears as though this company is nationwide
I would recommend NOT using them for any of your "critter" needs
to capture animals is one thing
torturing them is quite another.

I'm pretty sure the truck I saw was from Fort Myers, FL since that is the closest office

I Googled "Critter Control Fort Myers, FL" and wrote a review of the company

I know there are animal lovers out there like me- so I wanted to share.

On a similar, but semi- unrelated note
my very good friend Lisa just lost her 4 year old dog to cancer
So if you have a little fur baby,
be sure to give them extra, extra love (and maybe treats) tonight.

Here are my babies...

BTW- didn't go to sleep early as planned. I added some more veggies to my diet today though and definitely felt more energized. Maybe there IS something to this whole "healthy eating" thing!

Today's Eats:
  • bfast- ww mini bagel, cheese, egg white, OG applesauce, 2 coffees with NO SUGAR! (werd)
  • snack- Larabar, Mary's Crackers with hummus
  • Lunch- salad- 1 cuke, 1 tomato, 1/2 avocado, little feta cheese (there was supposed to be chicken but I left it at home)

Trying to be a Professional Adult on a Teeney Bopper budget

As part of my New Year's Resolution, I decided I needed to seriously update my work wardrobe. I started by completely tearing apart my closet and getting rid of everything that I:

Do not wear
Do not like
or
Doesn't look good on me
including the
"when I feel fat dress"
and the oh-so-popular
"when I get skinny jeans"

After getting rid of at least HALF of everything I own I decided that a trip to the mall was in order.

Sadly I have very little money to spend on clothing so I did what any girl in my Havaianas would do:

I went to the usual cheap-o, fake it till you make it clothing stores:
Target
Kohls
Forever 21
Old Navy

Trying to shop for clothes that will make me look professional and pulled together in Forever 21 is a joke. I swear I was the oldest person there by about 10 years. I managed to find 2 skirts that I thought would look good on me- but realized that I would only be getting them because they fit and not because I actually LIKED them.

The shopping trip was a failure.
I guess I am going to have to suck it up and actually SAVE the money to purchase real, quality, staple work pieces that will last forever.
You know-
black skirt
gray slacks
"dressy" jeans
all those pieces Stacy and Clinton tell us about.

Here come the judge

Once a guy walked up to me at Publix:

Guy:  You workout at the same gym I do
Me:
Guy: I just wanted to see if you bought healthy food
(he peeks into my cart)
Guy: Wow, you do. Wayyyy healthier than me.
He lifted up his basket so I could see the soda and frozen pizza’s he was carrying.

Fast Forward
Ever since that day I am very aware of what I put in my  grocery cart.  I play this secret game where I pretend that everyone in the store is watching what foods I’m buying. And judging me.

And every time I make it to the checkout with only healthy (or realatively healthy) items- I consider it a victory.

Consequently, this little situation got me to start looking into other people’s baskets. And yes, judging. Yesterday I saw a mother and her 10 year old boy load up their cart with 1 case of Sunkist in a can along with (2) 2 liters of Sunkist!

Here are my issues:
#1 – who the heck buys Sunkist? I mean, occasionally I may think a Sunkist would be a tastey treat- but that is like a once in blue moon type of thing. I guess I just always assumed everyone else in the free world felt the same way too.

#2- If you ARE one of those Sunkist drinking people/family HOW MUCH DO YOU POSSIBLY NEED!? 24 cans AND 2 liters?!

#3- I’m not a mom, but even I know that buying that much soda for your kid ranks up there with buying him cigarettes and booze.

Who am I to judge? It wasn't too long ago that my morning breakfast consisted of Mt. Dew and Doritos. (mmmm ... doritos)

Today’s Eats

  • Bfast- 2 whole grain pancakes with applesauce, coffee and 1 egg
  • Snack #1- PB Puffins and coffee
  • Lunch- WW Arnold thin with turkey and sprouts
    •  Greek yogurt with granola
  • Snack #2- banana
  • Dinner- Shrimp stir fry (shrimp, peppers, mushrooms, cashews) with brown rice
  • Dessert- small handful of Annie’s Choc
  • Fruit/Veggie Count: 5
  • Workout- 45 minute spin class

Dedication-
This blog is dedicated to all those rotten tooth rug rats running around hyped up on Sunkist.

Rut rut rut

Having these past 4 days off have been so wonderful. Abbie's family flew down, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

This weekend Abbie and I got to spend time together.

(he lost at pool- hence the blue nose)

As soon as I walked through my office today though- BAM! I felt like I was in a rut. I love my job- I really do, but lately it just seems so... boring. After much thought- I've decided that A- I'm going to rearrange my office (move my desk, put up new pictures, etc) and B- I'm going to create a schedule for work. An hour by hour TO DO list so that I won't get so bored/ran down with the same old tasks.

When I walked throught the doors of my gym today I felt the same thing- rut, rut, rut. I need new workouts ASAP. Good thing I subscribe to every freaking health and fitness magazine out there!

Tomorrow (I ran out of time today) I am going to go through my pile of old magazine and cut out some new workout moves. I'll probably try them at home so I can get the form down without feeling so self concious at the gym.

*** side note*** at my gym the "open floor/free weights/stability ball area" is always being used by personal trainers. Is it just me or does everyone else who is NOT with a personal trainer feel like they are being judged? I know I should not ever care what people think of me- especially if I am at the gym- because hell- at least I AM in a gym working out. But there is somethign about personal trainers that completely intimidate me and keep me from trying new stuff. lame i know. but this blog is about honesty right?

today's eats:
  •  bfast- 1 egg, 2 Bisquick lowfat biscuits (make with almond milk)
** I had a picture for this but it just looked so bland and blah**
  • coffee
  • snack #1- apple
    • apple crisp chips
  • Lunch- Turkey, 1 biscuit, teeny tiny bit of mac and cheese
  • snack #2- 3 pickles
    • celery with low fat ranch (not much ranch)
  • Dinner- Taco surprise- black beans, organic salsa, tomatoes, taco seasoning, organic corn chips, teeny tiny bit of cheese (mmmmmloadedwithdelicious)
  • Fruit/veggie count- #4.5
